FAQ
Q. When does my monthly membership end?
A. Your monthly membership ends on the last day of the month you signed up for. If you sign up on the 15th of the month, your membership will still only last until the last day of that month, so make sure you sign up for the number of hours you'll be able to use in the days remaining!
Q. Why Can't I sign up online for next month?
A. New member registration opens up on the first day of the new month. We do this in order to give returning members a chance to renew their memberships first, since limited spaces are available.
Q. When I become a student or member, do I have to bring my own tools?
A. We have basic tool kits at the studio for students to borrow during their classes and open studio hours. Regular members need to have their own tool kits. We do, however, have bigger tools like rolling pins, boards, sponges and buckets that all members are welcome to use.
Q. Do you have a waiting list for classes?
A. Class registration is first-come-first-served, so we don't have a waiting list for classes. Please send us an email if you are interested in joining our email list, which will allow you to hear firsthand when our new classes are posted.
Q. I don't have a credit card. is there another way I can pay for my class or membership registration?
A. Sure! You're welcome to drop by the studio to pay in cash or cheque during our open studio hours. It's best if you arrange a time when we know you're coming by contacting us.
Q. I am not a member or student, but I am looking for a kiln to fire my work in. Can I bring my pieces to your studio to have them fired?
A. Unfortunately, we don't have enough kiln capacity to offer that service right now.
Q. If I become a member, can I bring my own clay and glazes?
A. Only level 2 members are allowed to bring in outside clay and glazes, provided that it is still fired at cone 04 bisque and cone 6 glaze. These members need to have their clay weighed by one of the supervisors before using it, and pay $0.75 per pound. This covers all firing expenses.
Q. What kind of clay do you have at studio Ceramique sud-ouest?
A. We use a creamy off-white stoneware clay that fires at cone 04 bisque and cone 6 glaze. Members and students can buy it fresh ($1.50/lb) or recycled ($0.75/lb). Recycled clay requires a little bit more wedging than the fresh clay and may have some minor colour inconsistencies. Sometimes we have offer recycled porcelain clay as well ($1.00/lb).
